This time a year ago, the top three picks would consist of Trevor Lawrence to the Jaguars, Zach Wilson and, to a slightly lesser degree, Trey Lance to the 49ers, respectively. This year? The Jaguars are once again in control, and have narrowed their first overall choice to one of four players. Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson, Georgia's Travon Walker are the presumed top two picks by most pundits, although Oregon's Kayvon Thibodeaux's name is once again rising up the draft boards — anything beyond that is anyone's guess.

The precariousness of who will go where — plus the constant anticipation of draft-day moves and mega trades — should make for a fun TV event, even with a class that is largely lacking the top overall talent present in previous seasons.

With that, here's what you should know about the 2022 NFL Draft, including date and start time, where you can watch it and first-round draft order:

The Panthers are hoping one of the top three offensive tackles is available at 6, ideally Ikem Ekwonu or Evan Neal. But GM Scott Fitterer isn’t opposed to trading back into the teens (keep an eye on Philadelphia) and taking one of the other tackles in a deep class, like Tyler Smith or Trevor Penning.

The Panthers aren’t going to reach for a quarterback but could consider taking one at 6 if all three top tackles are gone or if there is a trade-back scenario. In addition to Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis, the Panthers were impressed with North Carolina's Sam Howell after his private workout. But Fitterer also knows he has Jimmy Garoppolo or Baker Mayfield as fallback options.

Graff: What I'm watching for from the Vikings in Round 1 of the NFL Draft

The Vikings enter Day 1 of the draft with a clear need at cornerback and the unfortunate situation of picking at a spot (No. 12) where a lot of draft experts think they’ll miss out on the top two options at that position — Cincinnati’s Sauce Gardner and LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr.

So I’m fascinated to see what they do if those two are indeed off the board when the Vikings are on the clock. Do they nab Washington corner Trent McDuffie? Try to trade back? Or pick the best player available if someone like safety Kyle Hamilton or edge rusher Jermaine Johnson is still there?

I expect the Cowboys to stay at pick 24 and draft the best player available on their board.

That could be a player that slips to them that they weren’t expecting, like CeeDee Lamb two years ago, but most likely it will be one of these four: Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green, Boston College guard Zion Johnson, Arkansas WR Treylon Burks or Ohio State WR Chris Olave. All four were on the Cowboys’ top 30 official pre-draft visitors list.

Dallas would be just fine with another instant impact defender, like Micah Parsons last year, but the odds are in favor of offense being addressed in the first round. Defenders to keep an eye on: Utah LB Devin Lloyd and Georgia DT Jordan Davis.
